How the Mets will win the World Series

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — The Mets, owners of baseball’s best record, are rebuilding their offense, acquiring Starling Marte, Eduardo Escobar and Mark Canha from the Pittsburgh Pirates for Travis d’Arnaud, Zack Wheeler and Dilson Herrera.

The Mets have long been considered one of the worst teams in baseball. While they have a bullpen with a combined ERA of 3.21, the starting rotation is not impressive.

But the Mets are contending in the NL East, where the team is 13-3 — tied with the Washington Nationals for first place. Here’s how the team got to that point: They were 47-37 when they got star closer Jeurys Familia, who in his first season (after sitting out half of the 2016 season) saved 45 games with a 2.37 ERA. But he’s on the DL now with a shoulder injury.

Signing second baseman Neil Walker last month was a coup because he has been one of the best second basemen in baseball, winning the Gold Glove award last season.
